Our History

Ongaro & Sons was founded in 1932 by Ernest V. Ongaro to provide honest, reliable service that homeowners can trust. What began as a small family business has grown into a fourth-generation company serving Marin, Sonoma, and Napa counties. Over the decades, we’ve expanded our expertise to include HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and solar, offering a seamless, whole-home service experience.

Founding Father

In 1932, Ernest V. Ongaro founded Ongaro Plumbing with his first shop in Fairfax, California. By 1940, he relocated to nearby San Anselmo (where we continue to operate), with an office in Santa Rosa as well. Heating repair and installation were added, and sons Donald, Ernest, and Richard joined to help with the growing company.

Next Generation

After 40 years in business, Ernest V. retired. The third generation has joined ever-growing Ongaro & Sons, starting with the current company President, Ernest J., the grandson of Ernest V. During the 1980s, Ongaro & Sons celebrated its 50th anniversary, and grandsons Dean, Mitch, and Paul Ongaro joined the company.

Sonoma County Expansion

In April 2001, Ongaro & Sons purchased Crane & Son Plumbing & Heating, a company that had served Sonoma County since 1945. With that acquisition, we continued our tradition of providing our customers with quality workmanship and exceptional service—now across all of Northern California.
