The return. Many of these homes rely on a single central return, so the air has to be able to get back to it. Interior doors whose undercut was lost to newer flooring will starve rooms with the system running perfectly, and that is a cheap fix once it is correctly identified.

The electrical supply. Power arrives as a feeder from a service pedestal rather than as a service entering the building, and that feeder carries four conductors so the neutral and the grounding conductor stay separate at the home.
