Understanding Trenchless Pipe Bursting

Trenchless pipe bursting is a cost-effective alternative to traditional pipe replacement that does not necessitate extensive trench digging. The process is remarkably seamless.

Here is how it works: Our Ongaro & Sons professionals will dig two small pits at both ends of the pipe’s location. Then, we will use a winch to pull a cable with an attached expander head through your sewer line.

The expander head navigates through your underground pipe, breaking it apart with the pieces pushed to the side. Simultaneously, new piping is added, ensuring a seamless transition from old to new. The replacement process doesn’t require digging up your yard, preserving your landscaping, and sanity!

Several factors can compromise the integrity of your sewer line over time. Here are some of the most common causes:

Tree Root Intrusion

Tree roots naturally seek out moisture, making underground sewer lines a prime target, especially older systems. As roots grow into the pipe, they can create cracks, blockages, and eventually collapse the line entirely.

Flushing Improper Materials

Flushing non-degradable items like paper towels, hygiene products, grease, or wipes, even those labeled “flushable”, can clog your pipes. These materials often get snagged on roots or rough interior surfaces, contributing to backups and long-term damage.

Aging or Outdated Pipes

Pipes over 50 years old are often made from materials like Orangeburg, which is formed from wood pulp and tar. These pipes are prone to warping, absorbing moisture, and ultimately collapsing under pressure.
